Quick Bites: Josh Hopkins heads to White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails, Big Kahuna opens, and more

Josh Hopkins named executive chef at White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails

Big Kahuna, a new Cali-Mex restaurant from Tom Nahas and Rahim Kaba of Twisted Taco, opens today in SunTrust Plaza at 303 Peachtree Center Ave. Big Kahuna is open for lunch 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Storico Fresco Pasta has opened up shop at 3210 Roswell Road (apparently around the back of the building) in Buckhead. The store is open Mon., noon-6 p.m.; Tues.-Fri., 10 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sat., 2-5 p.m.

Brewed to Serve Restaurant Group has named Josh Hopkins (STG Trattoria, Abattoir) as the new executive chef of White Oak Kitchen & Cocktails. The restaurant is located downtown, on the ground floor of 270 Peachtree St.

Sean Telo will replace Josh Hopkins as executive chef at STG Trattoria. Prior to training under Hopkins at STG, Telo was the executive sous chef at STK. Owner Brian Lewis has also announced that STG will begin serving lunch on Feb. 19.

In case you missed it, Kevin Gillespie left his position as executive chef at Woodfire Grill to open a new restaurant, Gunshow. Woodfire's chef de cuisine E.J. Hodgkinson was poised to take Gillespie's position, but then left to take the executive chef position at JCT. Kitchen. Last week, it was announced that Tyler Williams has left Abattoir and will serve as the new executive chef at Woodfire Grill.

Googie Burger in Centennial Olympic Park closes for the winter today. The walk-up burger stand will reopen March 4.

Mi Barrio in Grant Park has reopened after a two-month hiatus. The owners were visiting family in Mexico but had to cut the trip short after learning that the restaurant had been burglarized.

Dante's Down the Hatch might not close in late March as first announced. Owner Dante Stephensen reports that a developer's plan to raze the restaurant and build condos on the Peachtree Road property is now on hold.

Last week, newly crowned Miss America Mallory Hytes Hagan visited the IHOP in Chamblee to spread awareness for the chain's eighth annual National Pancake Day fundraiser on Feb 5.
