Chef Mihoko Obunai is heading up a complete kitchen overhaul at Joli Kobe, the Japanese/French fusion bakery and bistro based out of Sandy Springs on Roswell Road. Obunai - along with recently added sous chef Andy Tran (Repast, Serpas) - has been hard at work transforming Joli Kobe's cafeteria-style menu into a handcrafted, locally sourced operation featuring New American cuisine with Japanese and French influences.
Poncey Highland restaurant HD1 has applied for a permit to allow outdoor rooftop dining. The Atlanta City Council is expected today to consider the proposal, which the city's Zoning Review Board approved with seven conditions involving noise and lighting, among other issues.
The General Muir opened in the Emory Point development at 1540 Avenue Place last week. Billed as a "loving tribute to the New York Jewish deli" from West Egg owners Ben and Jennifer Johnson, the General Muir is helmed by chef Todd Ginsberg, formerly of Bocado.
After a three-month hiatus, chef Shane Devereux returns to Atlanta as the executive chef at Barcelona Wine Bar in Inman Park.
STG Trattoria owner Brian Lewis has hired pastry chef Sarah Dodge to oversee the dessert programs at both STG and sister restaurant Bocado. Beyond personnel changes, STG will begin serving lunch on Feb. 19 and add a 12-seat bar to STG's dining room.
Chris Lee will join owner Mike Blum at Yum Bunz. Lee will run the kitchen at the quick-serve dim sum restaurant, which is scheduled to open at the end of February on the Westside at 935 Marietta St.
Jonathan St. Hilaire has left his position as executive chef at the Lawrence to pursue opportunities outside of Atlanta, Eater reports. Hilaire has been replaced by Jeff Sigler, former chef at the now-shuttered River Room.
Boardwalk Burgers and Fries in Ansley Mall closed abruptly last week. Tomorrow's News Today reports that an Uncle Maddio's Pizza Joint will soon open in its place.
ToNeTo also reports that Duluth-based Japanese restaurant Raku plans to open in the former Burger Joe's location at 810 Marietta St.
