Thursday nights get hot and heavy at Republic Social House

Posted By on Mon, Feb 4, 2013 at 11:22 AM

I've become somewhat addicted to Thursday nights at Republic Social House.

The burgers here are great, but the real appeal of Thursday night is its "Dirty South Trivia" contest. Dirty South is a group that conducts different sorts of trivia contests in bars all over the city. The Republic contest is the group's most popular theme, "Sex, Drugs & Rock N Roll," and it begins around 9 p.m. (You can find other venues on the Dirty South link above.)

I'm sure the alcohol disinhibits many of the twenty- and thirty-somethings who make up most of the packed crowd. Occasionally the language is so over-the-top that the entire room groans at once. Last Thursday, we were treated to the view of three hot women dancing down the aisle of tables to suggestive songs. An invitation to turn MMA into a new acronym was particularly raunchy with frequent allusions to anal sex, proving that breeders under 45 really have fallen in love with butt sex.

My favorite burger remains the Va La Hades (above) - two patties with fire-spice rub, fresh jalapeños, pepper jack cheese and habanero mayo. It's not nearly as fiery as it sounds.

You might want to try the Hangover burger, whose quarter-pound of meat is sandwiched with provolone, cole slaw, french fries and a fried egg. Wayne likes it, but I can't even stand the thought of it.
