Mike Blum and Guy Wong's Yum Bunz will finally open Monday, July 8, at 935 Marietta St. The highly anticipated new dim sum concept has experienced months of delays, after first being slated to open in August, then January, then February, then ... well, you get the picture. Now, nearly a year later, Atlantans will be able to enjoy Wong's healthy take on Chinese cuisine - prepared by chef Chris Lee - including bao buns, Korean ssäm wraps, noodle bowls, and a mango and kaffir margarita.
Timone's, chef Ron Eyester's third Morningside restaurant, is slated to open
on July 13 within the next few weeks. Settled in the previous home of the short-lived Waffold - and Burger Tap before that - at 1409 North Highland Ave., the laid-back pizza joint will serve New York-style slices (plus crispy calzones and apparently amazing meatballs) daily, from lunch until after midnight.
In case you missed it, Chick-a-Biddy's July 1 was pushed back. The fast-casual pastured chicken concept from chefs Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere is now scheduled to open Thursday, July 11, in Atlantic Station.
The Ormewood Park location of Matador Cantina closed for business last month. This second location of the Mexican restaurant opened in fall 2008 and served patrons at 925 Garrett St. for five years. In the wake of its closure, loyal patrons can still enjoy Matador's cuisine at the original location in Decatur's Oakhurst Village.
850°F Bar Pizza will open this fall in the former home of Toscano & Sons Italian Market, Tomorrow's News Today reports. The new pizza joint will offer "brickoven prepared pizzas." Details as they arise.
The original Victory Sandwich Bar closed after one last hurrah Thursday, July 4. The popular Inman Park hangout, famous for its wallet-friendly sandwiches, shuttered to make room for a mixed-use development at 280 Elizabeth St. Owners plan to reopen Victory Inman Park this fall at 913 Bernina Ave., just a few blocks away. In the meantime, they'll focus their efforts on the newly opened Victory Decatur at 340 Church St.
Issues with Cobb County Code Enforcement prohibiting an already limited parking situation have forced Heirloom Market BBQ to eliminate in-house dining and transition to take-out and catering only. For now, the restaurant will keep its regular menu and hours (Tues.-Thurs., 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Fri., 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Sat., noon-9 p.m.). Despite the commotion, owners Cody Taylor and Jiyeon Lee are moving forward with a new restaurant concept slated to open in August in the former Kitsch'n 155 space on Clairmont Road.
Buckhead's Village Tap restaurant (3247 Roswell Road) has transitioned to new ownership. The restaurant slated to replace Village Tap will be called Rock n Taco, presumably a taqueria with live music. Details as they arise.
PushStart Kitchen has released the first sample menu for its forthcoming brick-and-mortar restaurant, Better Half, which chef Zach Meloy previously announced would be called Lost & Found. The supper club-inspired eatery, slated to open by summer's end at 349 14th St., will showcase Latin and Southern fusion cuisine. Dishes will range from braised pork shoulder with Meyer lemon cabbage, crisped onion, and burned tomato molasses, to a goat cheese-blood orange tart with chipotle-vanilla ice cream, and candied macadamia nuts.
We have new details on La Urbana Tequila & Mezcal Bar, opening this fall at the fast-growing Apex West Midtown development. The "high-energy Mexican concept" comes from chef, owner, and trained tequilier Jose Oňate, who grew up in the restaurant industry under the tutelage of his father (who started Monterrey 40 years ago on Buford Highway). It will feature Mexican cuisine that celebrates the country's vast diversity, with creative takes on tacos, fajitas, molcajetes, and tapas - expertly paired with select tequilas and mezcals.
After 10 years at 1210 Howell Mill Road, Westside Italian restaurant Osteria del FIGO is moving one mile down the road to 907 Marietta Street, Eater Atlanta reveals. The transition will happen in September, after which Westside Provisions developer Jamestown Properties plans to make the most of the real estate on which Osteria currently resides, likely redeveloping it as retail space. There are currently six additional FIGO locations, found in Alpharetta, Dunwoody, Vinings, Buckhead, Edgewood, and Decatur.
Over at Tomorrow's News Today, Eli Zandman speculates that the recent closure of Buckhead's Ringside Franks & Shakes for "renovations" really signals a more permanent shutter. Zandman points out that the website for its owners, The Schumacher Group, lists the option to "keep or convert" the eatery. Time will tell if the restaurant reopens. We'll keep you posted as details arise.
North Druid Hills shopping center Loehmann's Plaza is getting a location of Zoe's Kitchen, Tomorrow's News Today notes, making this the fifth location in the Atlanta metro area. The Birmingham-based Mediterranean restaurant chain will join Roly Poly, Jersey Mike's Subs, Moe's Southwest Grill and Panera Bread Company as neighbors.
Park 75 has expanded its Burger Bar program, now offering the in-kitchen dining experience into the comparatively tony Park 75 Lounge.
