In case you missed it, Rathbun's in Inman Park caught fire last Thurday, forcing the restaurant to close temporarily for repairs. The fire, which is thought to have originated in the kitchen's hood ventilation system, caused significant fire, smoke, and water damage within the restaurant. No one was injured.
Chef/owner Kevin Rathbun hopes to reopen his flagship restaurant later this week, but the findings of a pending point of origin inspection could delay the process.
"We thought maybe we could turn it around real fast, but with this whole fire inspection piece it's going to take a little bit longer. We thought Thursday might be a good day, but I really believe it's going to be more like Monday. I think it's gonna take a week to do this whole thing," Rathbun says.
According to Rathbun, renovations will include a new bar top, curtains, light fixtures, and a fresh paint job. The kitchen ceiling has also been replaced.
"We got a few pieces of new equipment [in the kitchen], but other than that, it's really gonna be the same look," he says.
The restaurant formally announced the closure in a statement released Tuesday morning:
On July 4th, at 6:00 a.m., Rathbun's experienced a small fire in the kitchen in which the fire marshal believes started in the hood system. The end result was fire, water, and smoke damage within the restaurant. We have an amazing restoration company restoring and repairing the damage to the restaurant. Thankfully, nobody was hurt and the restaurant was empty at the time of the fire.
Based upon the fire marshals recommendations and the completion of the renovations within the restaurant, we are planning to re-open later this week. We appreciate all of your loyal support during this time and we look forward to seeing you in one of our other restaurants, (Krog Bar, Kevin Rathbun Steak and KR SteakBar) Stay tuned...

Avellino's is shit, mate.
Oddly enough, "authentic Italian" style pizza tastes terrible! I've been to Napoli, and it doesn't…
Fellini's is good pizza if Maddio's is closed for the day.
"and I can tell you this ranking is not made by Italians."
Avellino's is a glaring omission. Their SPO (sausage, peppers, onion) pizza is Top 3 in…
