The Negroni. It's a classic concoction of equal parts gin, Campari, and sweet vermouth, garnished with an orange peel. United States Bartenders' Guild Atlanta chapter president and General Muir bar manager Michael Searles is particularly fond of the drink and its creator Count Negroni of Florence, Italy.
"I don't think there is any other food creation that incorporates bitter and dry in such a rich and elegant way. If it is good enough for friends of Italian royalty, it is good enough for me."
Searles is not alone. At local restaurants participating in this year's Negroni Week, the simple, sophisticated drink is being honored in the best kind of way. For the second year in a row Imbibe magazine and Campari have teamed up to help bars and bar patrons give back to the community through Negroni drinking.
The national event, which began on Monday and runs through Sunday, includes more than 1,300 restaurants and bars (1,317 at press time) nationwide. Participating establishments will donate a portion of the proceeds from each Negroni sold to a charitable organization of their choice.
Check out the list of Atlanta restaurants and bars in on the action below. If you find yourself at one of them this weekend, don't forget to order a Negroni, because drinking for charity is the best way to drink.
