On March 28, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the North Carolina Craft Brewers Guild are inviting nearly 50 breweries from all over the country to Sierra Nevada’s new east coast location in Mills River, NC for the first Burly Beers & Barleywines Festival. Designed as a winter-battling event of big, boozy brews, Georgia will be represented by four breweries (Red Brick Brewing Company, SweetWater Brewing Company, Wild Heaven Craft Beers, and Wrecking Bar Brewpub), more than any other state except North Carolina.

Tickets are $65, and Sierra Nevada plans to sell 2,000 of them.

“Northern California winters weren’t like this, so we’re embracing them with a festival that’s all about bold beers to warm you up,” Sierra Nevada Communications Manager Ryan Arnold tells Creative Loafing. “We have a great lineup of brewers from across the country bringing some knockouts.”

Georgia’s knockouts are as follows:

Red Brick
Beard Envy bourbon barrel-aged Barleywine - 9% ABV
Imperial Stout rum barrel-aged Imperial Stout - 10% ABV

SweetWater
Hop Hash Double India Pale Ale - 7.8% ABV
California Woody cabernet wine barrel-aged Saison with Brettanomyces - 10% ABV

Wild Heaven
Civilization Barleywine - 12% ABV
Height of Civilization tequila-barrel aged Barleywine - 12%

Wrecking Bar
Prichard’s rum barrel-aged Ye Olde Sprinklerhead English Barleywine - 12.5% ABV
Prichard’s rye whiskey barrel-aged Drievotig Belgian Tripel - 9.7% ABV

Sierra Nevada set the bar in so many ways from branding, to sustainability and what appears to be a relentless focus on innovation,” Wild Heaven president Nick Purdy says. “We’ve learned a lot by observing them. What they have built in North Carolina is so remarkable on many levels. If a finer brewery gets built in the United States, I’d love to see it.”
