Quick Bites: Corner Tavern moves out of East Point, Bludso’s becomes a food truck, and more

Chef RJ Cooper, the James Beard Foundation’s 2007 Best Chef (Mid-Atlantic) winner, has been named opening chef at 5Church. The Charlotte-based restaurant is slated to open this spring in the former Shout space at 1197 Peachtree St. N.E. in Midtown’s Colony Square. 

Corner Tavern’s East Point location (2783 Main St.) will relocate to Dearborn Plaza on North Central Avenue in Hapeville, reports Eater. The new location is expected to open in January or February of 2017 alongside a new concept from the Corner Tavern crew, Tren Loco Taqueria.

This year’s Atlanta Food & WIne Festival will include a pop-up vineyard Inspired by the McGuigan Wines Dublin City Vineyard. The vineyard and event space will be located at 98 14th St., across from the Four Seasons Atlanta Hotel, and will stay up until the end of June.

Former Castleberry Hill barbecue spot Bludso’s BBQ will return as food truck this summer. The Compton-based concept, which closed last October, initially promised another brick-and-mortar, according to Eater.

RIP. Downtown’s coastal soul spot Asante has closed. Before the website’s domain expired, it said the restaurant should reopen in a new location early next year.

Babalu Tacos and Tapas, a concept from Mississippi-based Eat Here Bands, has presented plans to the Midtown Development Review Committee to open at the forthcoming Alta Midtown mixed-use development, according to What Now Atlanta. Babalu would be Alta Midtown’s first table service restaurant.
