Eater Atlanta talks with Giovanni Di Palma of Antico, catching up on the drama of late. Di Palma says he's not worried about the bevy of new Neapolitan pizza joints popping up around town - in fact, he thinks that it's helping business. They don't seem to be hurting it because Antico is expanding. It is in the process of adding an Italian-inspired piazza with 100 seats and a second eatery, Limoncello Bar, Caffe and Gelataria. Piazza Antico will be located just across from the current Antico location.
The Pinewood Tippling Room will open for business on Tuesday, May 15. Guests have been getting a sneak peek this week at some pre-opening tasting events.
Loca Luna is engaged in a battle with local residents, reports Midtown Patch. Nearby homeowners are none too happy with the late weeknight hours, double parking, and club-goers urinating in their yards (can you blame them?). The restaurant will present its first crack at a solution at a community meeting in about two months.

Nothing says summer like popsicles and booze! Kill two birds with one stone when you partake in Corner Tavern’s new King of Pops collaboration: “Poptails.” Flavors include Strawberry Margarita, Loaded Arnold Palmer, The Bourbon Cowboy (a Corner Tavern specialty cocktail) and for the DD, classic Chocolate Sea Salt. Pops debut on April 20.
Tomorrow’s News Today reports on a pizza feud of epic proportions. Apparently, Antico has filed an intellectual property lawsuit against Fuoco di Napoli. TNT mentions that Lori McDowell is named as a defendant, and the name was familiar to me. McDowell and her family were actually the team behind the Antico Express truck, but now they are running the very similar Fuoco. Perhaps this is why Antico is a bit steamed? Not only did the pizza food truck owner open a similar shop, but she took Antico’s bad-boy chef with her.
A new restaurant called The Corner Taqueria is prepping for opening day in the Smyrna/Vinings area. They’ll serve all the Mexican essentials — a la carte tacos, homemade salsas, fresh margaritas, and more than 40 tequilas. The restaurant will be located on Atlanta Road in the same center as Zucca Pizzeria.
STG Trattoria, the new concept from the Bocado folks, opened for dinner this week. Through Sunday, they'll serve only dinner, and then beginning on Tuesday they'll add lunch as well. Located in Buckhead next to the St. Regis, STG's menu focuses on Neapolitan style pizza. Of course, they've got those fancy ovens shipped from Naples (who doesn't these days?!). Email brian@stgtrattoria.com for reservations.
This week we learned that Adam Evans will serve as the executive chef at Ford Fry's new Westside seafood spot, The Optimist (slated to open in May). Evans' history in Atlanta includes serving as the chef de cuisine at Craftbar Atlanta and JCT. Kitchen & Bar. As executive chef, Evans plans to put a strong focus on sustainable seafood.
Thrillist checks out Happy Belly, a new food truck that has a Big Green Egg on board. The truck serves organic, all-natural, gourmet street food - and they even have specialty options like a Paleo plate. Many of their meat and veggie dishes can be ordered as a sandwich or over greens.
I caught up with Patric Bell to get the skinny on his new consulting gig with Fifth Ivory. Bell says he's helping the fairly new Midtown restaurant develop an ingredient-focused menu that will change throughout the year. They'll put a modern twist on Southern classics and bring in local, high-quality ingredients for dishes like braised short ribs, fried chicken, and re-imagined deviled eggs. Once the menu is established, the bar will follow suit - infusing retro Rat Pack cocktails (they are a piano bar, after all) with seasonal flavors.
Gino's NY Pizza, which currently has one location in Norcross, is moving on intown with a new location on Cheshire Bridge Road. They'll take over the recently shuttered Franco's space and open at the beginning of May. The owners of Gino's are straight outta New York, where one of their grandmother's even owned a pizzeria.

Joystick Gamebar, a new bar and lounge with - you guessed it - lots of games, will be opening on Edgewood Avenue. They'll take over the space left empty by Dynamic Dish.
Also on Edgewood, the Atlanta Business Chronicle is reporting that a pizza joint called Ammazza will open this summer. Run by two brothers, Ammazza plans to take inspiration from successful Neapolitan spots like Antico, but focus on using local ingredients rather than those imported from Italy. They'll make their mozzarella in house and have around 30 beers on tap.
Campagnolo, the new Midtown eatery from Peasant Group, is opening to the public on Monday, April 9. The cozy Italian spot will serve rustic dishes with a focus on freshness, featuring locally-sourced meats, and house-made yumminess including pasta and bacon.

Decatur Metro reports that The Pinewood will open in the former Cakes and Ale location. So far, all we know is that they will serve regionally inspired cocktails and food, they seem to be Outkast fans (their first tweet read “Decatur, lend me some sugar, I am your neighbor!”), and the full name will be The Pinewood Tippling Room. For those not in the know, a tipple is a drink or, if used as a verb, it means to drink alcohol. In other words, plan to booze it up at The Pinewood.
They haven’t hit the streets yet, but before too long you can expect to see a new food truck called Sandwich Buddha rollin’ through town. They’ll be serving soup and sandwiches. The truck is ready to go, complete with a smiling Buddha, and they are just waiting on final permits.
Another new food truck, Mighty Meatballs, is also getting ready to take to the streets. Inspired by their grandma’s recipe, Mighty Meatballs is two brothers slingin’ meatball sliders in both traditional and creative flavors.
West Midtown Corner Tavern has a new menu, and fancy-pants burgers are in the spotlight. Starting Monday, 10 new burgers will hit the menu - including one that’s deep fried in a PBR batter and topped with pimento cheese and gravy. Holy heart attack.
In other burger news, Smashburger has introduced a new, limited-edition burger at all five Atlanta locations. The Fresh Mex burger (also available as a chicken sandwich) is topped with avocado, cilantro, onions, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, sour cream, and spicy chipotle mayo on a Mexican roll, served with a wedge of lime. The Fresh Mex is available through April 29.
A new doughnut shop, Revolution Doughnuts (formerly Little Red Hen Bakeshop), is opening in Decatur in May. They’ll be located next to Ale Yeah. In addition to good, old-fashioned, homemade doughnuts, they also make gluten-free and vegan treats. Until the shop opens, you can find their doughnuts around town at places like Decatur Farmer’s Market and the Atlanta Nosh market coming soon to Atlantic Station.
An Evening with Le Cirque, a nationwide tour that recreates Manhattan's iconic Le Cirque restaurant, will arrive in Atlanta on May 25 for a dinner at the Buckhead Club. The three-course meal, featuring an entree of black bass, will run you $150, including wine pairings. Reservations required. Via Eater.
Charlot’s Creole Cafe is preparing to open downtown on Mitchell Street, right by Lunacy Black Market. They’ll serve classic Creole dishes including gumbo, po’ boys and jambalaya.

Yum Diggity, the new stand at Sweet Auburn Market from the team at Yumbii, is finally open (we’ve been hearing about it since July). There are beef dogs, and beer brats, and sausage (oh, my!) - all locally sourced. Down the line they’ll add additional options, including sandwiches. Check out some pictures on Thrillist.
In case you missed it yesterday, Drew Van Leuvan is leaving ONE Midtown Kitchen to open Seven Lamps (the name is an Exodus reference as far as we can tell, or perhaps a reference to an obscure 17th century English architecture essay?) at the Shops Around Lenox. When asked about a replacement for Van Leuvan, Concentrics PR rep said "There are big plans on the horizon for ONE and their 10th Anniversary, but no specifics to announce at this time."
We've heard a rumor from a couple of sources (one possibly drunk, but still) that the owners of Hankook Taqueria have signed a lease in the old Cakes & Ale location in Decatur.
You may have heard that Jeff Myers (TOP FLR, SoundTable) opened a restaurant called Water Club in Cave Spring, Georgia a few weeks ago. You probably wondered why. Seems Myers has been a long-time fan of the area - he travels there to bottle water and even uses it to make the ice cubes at TOP FLR. He decided to reward Cave Spring for being super awesome by opening a restaurant there. Myers worked with Shane Devereux to develop the menu. While in the area, they found a local farm that will now provide produce for TOP FLR, Sound Table, Water Club and the soon-to-open The Lawrence. Everything at Water Club is going swimmingly (literally, apparently one of the local attractions is a spring-fed pool in the shape of Georgia).
Earlier this week we reported on some happenings at Fuoco di Napoli. Chefs walking out, arrests and the like. Some serious drama, folks. Anyhow, we also wanted to give you a heads up that Fuoco is no longer a BYOB hangout, as per their landlord’s request.
Organix Food Lounge is gearing up to open on Ponce in the former Entice-A location. Midtown Patch reports that they will serve gluten-free and vegan options, and the menu will consist of mostly organic tapas, plus lots of beverages - both with and without alcohol. The owner says it’s geared toward the type of folks who shop at Whole Foods and the like, who don’t want to compromise when dining out.
BGR: The Burger Joint will open in Atlantic Station. This is the first Georgia location for the national chain. They’ve got a slew of typical and not-so-typical burgers - from dressed up beefy numbers to alternatives like ahi tuna. Their Greek Burger (made with lamb) topped Bobby Flay’s creation on The Food Network’s “Throwdown.”
Luna Nueva in Little Five Points has transformed into Thai 5. Thrillist peeks inside the new restaurant. The menu includes noodle and rice bowls, the usual Thai entrees, and sushi. There are bento boxes at lunch. And don’t you fret, they’ve got alcohol (some will remember a margarita-less Luna Nueva in the early days).

Feast Restaurant in Decatur will be closing this weekend. The restaurant posted a message to patrons on their Facebook page explaining that the cause is a mix of the economy and a tough battle with breast cancer. The restaurant has been open for seven years. They also owned the short lived Farmstead 303/Rail Kitchen and Bar, which closed last August. Owner Teri Rogers hopes to start a catering company.
The former Silver Grill on Monroe Drive will become La Hacienda Mexican Restaurant. The building will almost double in size, getting an 892 square foot addition. La Hacienda has two locations, one in Peachtree City and one in Newnan. The massive menu is full of the standard Americanized Mexican fare.
Lime Fresh Mexican Grill, which had already announced two Atlanta locations, will open a third location - this time taking the Genghis Grill spot in Peachtree Hills at Brookwood Sqaure. They already have two planned locations along the Peachtree stretch - one in Midtown (formerly Bakeshop) and one in Buckhead (formerly Johnny Rockets). Each outpost is only about 2.5 miles from the next. All three will open soon.
