Sobban, the new Korean-Southern diner at 1788 Clairmont Road in Decatur, opened for lunch yesterday. After the restaurant's POS system went down, owners Jiyeon Lee and Cody Taylor decided to close for dinner last night and lunch today. But, it seems, those technical kinks have been worked out. A call to the restaurant confirmed that Sobban will open at 5 p.m. for dinner tonight and proceed with dinner service only for the rest of the week. If all goes well, Sobban will resume full lunch/dinner hours and menu next week starting on Tuesday.
The newest venture from the minds that brought you Heirloom Market BBQ, Sobban offers dishes such as housemade dumplings, pickled lotus root salad, sweet chili salt-and-pepper shrimp, and more. The diner will feature a late-night menu from 10 p.m.-1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.

Rathbun's is gearing up to reopen after a kitchen fire in July. Nobody was injured, but the incident caused major fire, smoke, and water damage throughout the restaurant. Initially, owner Kevin Rathbun planned to complete inspections and renovations within a week. Obviously, that did not happen. Now, after nearly 12 weeks of renovations, Rathbun's is scheduled to reopen Monday, September 23.
From the press release:
The fire has allowed us to take a look back at our last ten years in business and tweak what we thought needed to be tweaked. Or maybe update areas of the restaurant that we thought were looking worn. We have taken the golden opportunity and have given ourselves a facelift.
The "facelift" includes all new kitchen equipment, as well as new carpet in the dining room, fresh paint in both the dining room and kitchen, and a newly refinished bar.
Smash Kitchen & Bar is now open in Brookhaven, filling the vacancy left by Stir Crazy Fresh Asian Grill at 804 Town Blvd. The Tom Catherall concept combines American chophouse classics with Southern-inspired staples, ranging from Smash-potatoes, to shrimp and okra, to a modernized version of British comfort food bubble and squeak.

Sisco currently delivers soups of the week in mason jars to members of the neighborhood on her eco-friendly Stella scooter. Turning to Kickstarter to raise funds for the future Soup Shack, Sisco says she needs $45,000 to renovate the outbuilding in front of her house on Auburn Avenue. She hopes to both employ and serve members of the neighborhood while continuing to deliver soups by scooter.
With new breweries opening at an unheard-of pace in the Atlanta area, it seemed necessary to create a place for tracking their progress. Enter Brewery Watch, a semi-regular blog series we'll publish as often as the market dictates to do precisely that. Got a new brewery tip? Send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
While this Decatur brewery's wares have been in the market for several months, BlueTarp held its inaugural tour in late August, and its tasting room is nearing the end of its build out. Pouring at that tour was BlueTarp's Fünk Weisse, a 3 percent alcohol by volume Berliner Weisse, which is the first in the brewery's wild/funky/sour beer FunkieTarp Series. Brewer Tom Stahl says he hopes to have the series' second beer ready soon, but that these two will be the exception to the rule.
"Most of the FunkieTarp beers will be funked in barrels and will take six months to two years to get where they need to go," he says. "We have 1500 square feet of space next to our tasting room which will be used for barrel storage and aging. Some in the series will be wild and spontaneous while some will be cultured."
Stillhouse, a new craft burger restaurant and moonshine bar, opens today in the East Andrews Entertainment District located at 56 E. Andrews Drive. Expect grassfed beef burgers with cheese baked directly into the buns, Coca-Cola-marinated chicken, and plenty of housemade condiments to go with. The bar will feature moonshine barrel-aged on site with ingredients such as Vidalia onions and Georgia peaches, which are then mixed into cocktails with fresh garnishes.
Cotton Cravings will hold a soft-opening today at Lenox Square Mall.
