As the kind of artist whose work may have as much to teach art fans as those concerned with contemporary politics, Lebanese photographer, essayist and videographer Walid Raad has been described by art critic Jerry Saltz as "more of a social scientist." His art – or documentation or proposal, depending upon your perspective – treats the more conceptual notion of the various ways history is written with looks at hostage-taking, car bombs, the Arab-Israeli conflict, contemporary Lebanese history and the Lebanese civil wars. This week, Atlanta-based art magazine Art Papers sponsors ART PAPERS LIVE! WALID RAAD, which includes a screening Tues., NOV. 6, and a talk Wed., Nov. 7, by the Cooper Union professor. Free. Screening: 8 p.m. Emory University, White Hall, 301 Dowman Drive, Room 206. Lecture: 7 p.m. Room 208. 404-588-1837. www.artpapers.org.
