Pop Smart - Catch-phrase du jour: ‘I drink your milkshake!’

Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood isn’t just one of the best films of 2007, it has inspired the first viral catch-phrase of 2008. Near the end of the movie, Daniel Day-Lewis’ vicious oil baron Daniel Plainview exclaims, “I-drink-your-milkshake! I drink it up!” with gusto unmatched since “Show me the money!” or “You can’t handle the truth!” (Incidentally, if you haven’t seen the film, the context of the quote may give away a little more than you’d want to know of the plot.)

There’s already a There Will Be Blood blog with the URL IDrinkYourMilkshake.com. New York magazine’s Vulture blog speculates in detail about the phrase’s proper usage in pop culture (for instance, as a sports metaphor: “The Celtics drank the Knicks’ milkshake last night”). And now there’s a video mash-up of There Will Be Blood clips and the Day-Lewis line set to the song “Milkshake” by Kelis:
