What do the Middle East crisis and Barbie dolls have in common? That sounds like the setup to a one-liner from CL's Andisheh Nouraee. Instead, it reflects the scope of playwright Sherry Kramer's WHEN SOMETHING WONDERFUL ENDS, opening Thurs., MARCH 13, at Actor's Express. Vicki Ellis Gray (pictured) stars in the solo show about one woman's attempts to define her place in the world. It spans her childhood attachment to Barbie, her experience growing up in a Jewish family in Springfield, Mo., and her concerns about global fragility. Artistic director Freddie Ashley directs the play, which won raves from its world premiere production at Actors Theatre of Louisville's Humana Festival of New American Plays. Through April 12. $22-$27. Wed.-Sat., 8 p.m.; Sun., 2 p.m. 887 W. Marietta St. 404-607-7469. www.actors-express.com.
