When she reviewed the final episode of "Lost," our Televangelist remarked, of the show's final 10 minutes, "Either you loved it or you hated it or you will be confused and somewhat annoyed for the rest of your life. I'm not even entirely sure what happened, to be honest." Count me in Team Deeply Dissatisfied, but I feel better about "Lost" overall now that I've seen "The New Man in Charge," the show's 12-minute epilogue. ABC releases "Lost's" sixth and final season on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow, Aug. 24, and the puckish postscript may remind you of the things you like about the show before it started dumping so much baffling mysticism on our heads.
"I'm here to tie off some loose ends," Ben Linus remarks, in one of the film's many lines that seem written directly for the fans' benefit. I won't spoil the details, save to say that "The New Man in Charge" features Michael Emerson at his most humorous and touches on some aspects of the Dharma mythology, which always inspired some of the show's most weirdly witty moments. The film answers some of the minor, nagging questions not addressed in the finale, and provides closure for a long-missed character whose fate seemed to be left up in the air. Some of the imagery seems to wink at the final shot of Raiders of the Lost Ark. Here's a clip of Michael Emerson introducing the film, which you might be able to find on-line in its entirey, but the first minute or so is readily available. If the finale left a bad taste in your mouth, consider this an amuse bouche.
