Kamasi Washington is awakening a passion for contemporary jazz and modal music in a young generation of listeners. The Los Angeles-born tenor saxophone player, composer, and bandleader is revered for his cosmic, spiritual take on jazz music. Since the arrival of 2015’s The Epic, Washington has collaborated with the likes of rappers Kendrick Lamar and Run the Jewels, bass player Thundercat, and electronic music innovator Flying Lotus. Now touring in support of his most recently released album, this year’s Heaven and Earth (Young Turks), Washington brings his larger-than-life ensemble to the stage, blasting a heavy dose of Afro-Futurism and 20th-century West Coast jazz for the masses.

With Butcher Brown. $32-$37. 7 p.m. (doors). Sat., Nov. 17. The Buckhead Theatre, 3110 Roswell Road N.W. 404-843-2825. www.thebuckheadtheatreatl.com.
