NEWS BRIEF: New court ruling limits where your car can be booted
Boots on private property get the boot
The state supreme court ruled Tuesday that cars can only be booted in cities or counties that have relevant ordinances in place. The ruling follows a lawsuit in which business owners claimed to have a common-law right to boot cars on their properties. “There appears to be no legal authority recognizing a common-law right to immobilize unauthorized vehicles located on private property and hold them against the owner’s will until payment is received,” Justice Shawn LaGrua wrote. wsbtv.com
