Oral antiviral treatments for COVID-19 are slowly being made available in Georgia pharmacies and more are on the way, according to the Department of Public Health. The Merck and Pfizer medicines in pill form are for the use of adults and children 12 years or older who weigh at least about 88 pounds and are at risk of becoming severely ill. Merck’s drug, molnupiravir, was developed in Atlanta by Dr. Richard Plemper of Georgia State University’s Institute for Biomedical Sciences along with Emory University researchers. fox5atlanta.com
