Some sexy mollusks and crustaceans: Oyster Crawfish Fest at Park Tavern

Posted by on Thu, Mar 22, 2012 at 12:10 PM

Back in February, our Food Intern Kelsey Clodfelter posted this story about Valentine's Day noms, and of course Oysters played a main role in many of the menus. Thankfully, those slimy suckers aren't strictly used for wooing your sweetheart in the middle of February.

The folks at Park Tavern are hosting the Oyster Crawfish Festival for the 9th time on Saturday, March 31. They plan on having over ten thousand pounds of crawfish (which I find just really cute, is that weird?) alongside every incarnation of the oyster you could imagine. You can even get a basket of fried shrimp and oysters: a veritable oceanic mélange of flavors.

To top it off, they are going to have musical performances by a smattering of people with names as sexy as those little bivalve mollusks, too. Cowboy Mouth, Heavy Mojo, The Soulphonics, Ruby Velle, and The Squirrelheads will all be providing outstanding musical ambiance as you suck down those crawdads and slurp up those oysters. (Ok, maybe squirrels aren't exactly sexy...or the word slurp).

AND THE ALCOHOL. Gosh guys how could I forget. They are going to have a 16-foot "ultimate" Bloody Mary Bar complete with Smirnoff and all the fixin's, plus brews from Abita, Heineken, and that drink of interesting people, Dos Equis.

Obvs you gotta be 21 to go, and the party starts at 2. Also, the tickets are only $15, which is redonk.

Once we reach 4,000 followers, we'll select one rando follower to get tickets to the SOLD OUT Red Hot Chili Peppers concert on April 10 at Gwinnett Arena.

Fun with our advertisers.
While historically St. Patrick's Day celebrates the arrival of Christianity to Ireland, stateside we tend to choose a slightly different approach to the celebration, and mainly proclaim the merits of verdant hues and alcoholic beverages.

This Saturday, the drinks will be poured and celebratory music played by CL's favorite, Yacht Rock Schooner. In addition to playing their normal beloved set, Yacht Rock will be playing an ode in special tribute to that ubiquitous and magnanimous Irish behemoth, U2.

The festivities will start at 2 p.m. at Park Tavern at Piedmont Park (500 10th St NE Corner of 10th and Monroe). Tickets are $10 in advance, and $15 at the door. Buy tickets online.

Scat and stuff: Wildlife Rescue at the Fernbank

A trip to any museum can harken memories of field trips as a child, or perhaps nightmares for adults with those small children. In either case, there is the inevitable question: will this be something I can geek out over, or something to keep in mind when I'm trying to sleep?

The Fernbank's newest exhibit, "Wildlife Rescue," is most definitely not the latter, but not for reasons you may assume. The exhibit is entirely interactive and comes with that brand new museum smell, which is always great. The interactive element is very cool, as it allows you to experience the exhibit in any way you want, unlike in the good old days when a semi-knowledgeable volunteer may make or break your time there. However, there seems to be a giant disconnect throughout the exhibit.

Name our new event space, win $25

Posted by on Fri, Jan 6, 2012 at 1:20 PM

We're all moved in to our new digs, which just so happen to include a 200-person-capacity event space! We'll host CL events such as town hall-style forums as well as private events — everything from birthday parties to meet-and-greets.

Photos will come soon, after we've cleaned up a bit more. But we can tell you that it's got a full kitchen, a bar, and a wonderful view of the Atlantic Station courtyard.

So, now, we need your help. Send me your suggestions on what we should name the space by Friday, Jan. 20, for a chance to win $25! What's better than cash money? (Maybe getting a sneak peak of the space, which we'd be happy to arrange if you win ... nah, money is probably better, although I promise the space is awesome!)

Spread the Love at Atlanta's funkiest community benefit

Posted by on Wed, Nov 16, 2011 at 2:45 PM

spreadlove.jpg
It's that time of year to be joyful for things like Mariah Carey's Christmas tunes and the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, so why not bring the gang out to support Spread Love's 4th Annual Atlanta Community Food Bank Benefit? Proceeds from this high-class house-head affair and an on-site food drive go straight to ACFB, which supports a wide range of people in need, from children to low-income households. Food pantries, community kitchens, childcare centers, night shelters and senior centers are among the recipients of the Food Bank who also provide other critical resources for community members in need.

The main event of the evening is Spread Love’s annual “Felabration”, the largest annual U.S. event paying tribute to, Fela Kuti.

Spread Love’s benefit for ACFB will bring together visual artists, photographers, spoken-word artists, and nine of Atlanta’s most renowned deejays: DJ Kemit, Jamal Ahmad (WCLK), DJ Doc (Superfriends), Cha-Cha Jones (The Urban Legend DJ's), DJ Ausar (WRFG), Mafioso (45 Kings), Majestik (MJQ), Ramon Rawsoul (House In The Park), and Salah Ananse (Afrique Electrique/Sunday School).

Yes! Now you can work off that half pound of dressing and support an amazing cause, all in one night!

Saturday November 26, 2011 (10 p.m. - 2 a.m.)
595 North Event Venue and Lounge
595 North Ave, NW, Atlanta GA 30318
