AJC picks up 2,000 new subscribers!

AJC uses competing online bargain site to boost subscriptions

Image As usual, the above headline is somewhat deceptive. Actually, some of those two-thousand subscribers — 2,050, to be precise — are already current subscribers. And the new subscriptions are only for the Sunday paper — but still, the AJC showed its resourcefulness in finding new customers by posting a deal on Groupon yesterday.

Now, some might note the irony that the AJC would use Groupon to promote itself when it went to the trouble of launching DealSwarm (half off at Bojangles Chicken and Biscuits, anyone?), its own Groupon knock-off, a while back to get a piece of the online bargain frenzy.

But, irony of hiring the competition aside, the AJC is so eager to get new business (hey, aren’t we all?) that the paper apparently had a customer-service rep camp out on the website to answer questions from cautious deal-hunters. We’ll sample a few after the jump…
