The Peter Karp Band, Album Release Party For Jersey Town at Eddie's Attic
CRITIC’S PICK
Fri., Nov. 13
Peter Karp, Eddie’s Attic — Bluesy/soulful/multi-instrumentalist Karp never left the road but hadn’t released an album of new material since 2020. That drought ended with this year’s rugged Jersey Town. He’s a frequent visitor because his publicity team lives here, as does guitarist Mark Johnson who many remember from Delta Moon. But with a catalog that reaches back to 2004, no two Karp tours are the same. Songs like the rockabilly jangle of “Tooth and Nail” and the swamp rocking “House Full of Love,” both from his new one, are made to be heard live. Karp and his talented band, always deliver and being in receptive surroundings with friends and associates, always adds more mojo. — Hal Horowitz

The Peter Karp Band, Album Release party for Jersey Town live at Eddie's Attic!
The band features Mark Johnson on guitar, from Atlanta legendary band Delta Moon.
Jersey Town is a gritty, fierce homage to the state and the place where Peter Karp honed his storytelling skills and assertive guitar chops. The sound is real, aggressive, relentless, jubilant, dark, tenacious, hard, hollow, and smart-ass. 11 songs and stories about the people he played for, real and imagined, for years, night after night in every shot and beer joint up and down the NJ turnpike.
Ever the multi-tasker, songwriter Peter Karp bounces between several instruments, handling electric resonator slide guitar, acoustic guitar — as well as harmonica and piano. The music is crackling with smart and witty lyrics. His ability to give the audience such a great time while performing is refreshing. Karp continues to carve out his own unique niche, with a sound born in the swamps of New Jersey and the trailer parks of southern Alabama.
“Guys like Peter Karp, James Taylor and Bob Dylan embody Americana Blues, and us English guys are inspired by it.” - Mick Taylor, The Rolling Stones
Karp first saw national attention when guitarist Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones recorded and toured with Karp on his third indie release. Signed to Blind Pig Records, he released several other albums, including two with Sue Foley, that worked their way to the top of the Blues and Billboard Charts. A common theme his various bands possess is Karp’s heartfelt, critically acclaimed songwriting amidst a group of masterful musicians.
“Peter Karp is a star. From his muscular slide guitar soloing to his observational and oh-so-true songwriting, and, most of all, that soulful expressive voice of his, dripping with innuendo. Dude’s entertaining as hell.” Goldmine Magazine
“Karp is his own man, an artist who blends roots music styles into something that transcends blues, country, R&B and swamp, John Prine’s wordplay, Joe Ely’s rocking instincts, Billy Joe Shaver’s fatalistic outlook.” - J. Poet – Allmusic.com
