Sacred Pride Celebration
From the venue:
SACRED PRIDE is on view through DEC. 10TH. The free Sacred Pride Celebration is Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 6 to 10 PM, with DJ Neon Horror, a drag performance by Aspen York at 8 PM, and booze-free cocktails from ArtPopSips. Entry is free by RSVP with a ticket at eventbrite.com/cc/sacred-pride-events-4885024. The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday, 11 AM to 5 PM, and is a short walk from MARTA's SEC District station.
A lion does not live alone. It lives in a pride, the family that stands with you when the world does not. Sacred Pride is about that family: the one that raised us, the one we choose, and the city that holds us all.
The Pleasure of Coming Apart and Expanses open the show with two motions every queer life knows, coming apart and reaching out. Pentecost and Jaws of Creation speak to letting the false self fall away so the true self can rise toward the light. The Pride We Carry moves six images of my family across ten screens, the way memories arrive, closing with the lion, The Quiet Roar. Every Shape of Family: Atlanta maps this city as a place where every kind of family belongs. Transcendence looks ahead, the face already tilting upward.
Come as you are. There is room in the pride.
In celebration of Atlanta Pride, Sacred Pride is curated by Kathleen Brown for Fulton County Arts & Culture Public Art Futures Lab and is presented by Gallery FC with support from Downtown Atlanta Inc. in partnership with ASHA Advisory and Art in the Paint.
ALL EXHIBITION EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITH RSVP.
