Before there was a Corner Tavern on Edgewood, there was Marie Cowser. The late community activist played a huge role in helping to transition Old Fourth Ward to the community it is today while fighting to keep its soul intact.
The festivities at Corner Tavern next Wednesday will include half-price apps, $4 tap and tapas. Plus - and this is the main event - a $1 donation will go to the O4W Do Good project for every order of Ice Candy Cocktails placed all night.
One lucky attendee will also win tickets to Party in the Park, the electronic concert featuring Passion Pit, Ellie Goulding and more that takes place in Centennial Olympic Park on Sat., May 18.
Here's a sampling of Chef Chris Sheehy's tapas menu for next Wednesday's happy hour:
>>Red wine braised pork shoulder and chorizo on a buttermilk biscuit
>>Roasted potatoes, red peppers and artichokes with a siracha brava sauce and pecorino cheese
>>Chili shrimp over spinach with bacon vinaigrette
>>Blueberry dumplings with fireball ice cream
Here's the Facebook invite.
The park is scheduled to open in June if funding goes according to plan. A spring community cleanup sponsored by YoBoulevard! is also in the works for the future park site on Sat., May 18. More details to come. In the meantime, feel free to get your give on the electronic way - no amount is too small - and check out the Capitol View and Grant Park/Oakland Cemetery Do Good projects, too.
